It can also be blended with flower petals, jute, wool, straw, grass etc.
Usually made of cotton or Oriental fibers, handmade drawing paper is also used as gift-wraps, art & craft paper, for greeting & invitation cards, book binding and wall paper. In the manufacturing of this paper, the hand process of lifting the fibers from the water allows the fibers to align in all directions and interlock among themselves. This gives handmade papers great strength, hence, making them best suited for the purpose of drawing. Also, when this type of paper gets wet, it expands evenly in both directions with minimal buckling and warping.
Another advantage of using handmade art paper is that it is manufactured in a carefully controlled, completely neutral environment, to ensure that the papers produced are acid-free as the longevity of an art work depends largely upon the quality of the paper used. Acids tend to damage papers and cause them to deteriorate. However, these handmade papers are strong and don't deteriorate with time, if stored in the right way because of their inherent strength due to the quality of fibers that are physically processed without the use of chemicals.
