A Pencil Sharpener or Pencil Parer is a device for sharpening a pencil's point by shaving one end. Pencil sharpeners exist in both electric and hand-powered forms.
Mechanical Sharpeners
Mechanical Sharpener is hand-powered which is usually small in size(2.5 cm) and are available in portable variety.Mechanical sharpener base is made of alumunium, magnesium or hard plastic.
Electric Sharpeners
Electric sharpeners and mechanical sharpener works on the same principle. In electric sharpener the blade is rotated rapidly by an electric motor.
To make electric sharpeners more comfortable batteries are used instead of electrical plugs.
Specialized Pencil Sharpeners
Specialized sharpeners are used to operate non-standard sizes of pencil, such as large art pencils used in primary schools and carpenters rectangular pencils. Some mechanical sharpeners have a large hole with a rotating disk in front of it that has several holes of different sizes.
Similar design Sharpeners are used for wax crayons and often included in boxes of crayons.Plastic blades are available for the softer wax.
Mechanical Pencils are made up of unsharpeable material such as plastic or metal which does not require sharpening.Such pencils are sometimes called "self-sharpening pencils." However, prolonged writing periods often cause one side of the graphite to become lopsided and dull. Specialized versions of "pencil sharpener", known as graphite pointers are available for drafters or other mechanical pencil users that demand constantly-sharp points.
