Des Moines Rubber Stamp Works was established in 1880 in a basement shop in downtown Des Moines. The company changed hands several times before Frank Child Sr. Purchased it in 1919. Today the third generation of the Child family operate the company as Des Moines Stamp Manufacturing Company.

Originally the company sold rubber stamps and brass stencils. Today inspection stamps, pre-inked stamps, mechanical self- inking stamps and engraved signage are the main products sold throughout the U.S.

In 1963 Johnson Wax approached Des Moines Stamp to sell a revolutionary pre-inked stamp called the Perma Stamp. Perma Stamps make 25, 000 impressions without an ink pad. Today Des Moines Stamp is the largest manufacturer of Perma Stamps in the United States.

Des Moines Stamp has nearly 100 dedicated people manufacturing and selling Des Moines Stamp products. The company has branch locations in Sioux City, Iowa; Davenport, Iowa; Peoria, Illinois; and Moline, Illinois.
